Security Mail to the Troops
If you are sending letters to loved ones overseas, please be sure to tell the service members to shred and/or burn the address labels (both the addressee and addresser labels) before the empty boxes or envelopes go into the trash.
It has been reported to us, that service members overseas have caught intruders rummaging through the trash, collecting address labels of family members etc.
We do not know what the purpose of collecting this information, but we can't imagine it's a good one.
We've heard from others, who have known friends who have gotten vandalized during Desert Storm, and as far back as Vietnam. So, this is a not a "new" issue, nor an issue that has been solved.
Please be careful and be sure to advise service members accordingly overseas.
